Detours and Dragons: My Unconventional Path to Business

My unconventional path to business began after high school, leading me across the Ambassador Bridge to the University of Windsor. Entrepreneurship had always been a fascination of mine—I’d spent countless dinners glued to “The Apprentice” and now “Shark Tank / Dragons’ Den” imagining myself in those hot seats, pitching my own big ideas. The University of Windsor, with its proximity to Detroit’s vibrant business scene, seemed like the ideal launchpad.

My time in Windsor was an immersion in the world of business fundamentals, learning the language of accounting, marketing, and finance. The courses sparked a deeper curiosity, and I found myself devouring business biographies and attending networking events in my free time. The dream of starting my own company one day felt more tangible than ever before.

However, life had other plans. My second year was marked by a significant shift in my personal life that required my full attention. I made the difficult decision to step back from my studies.

While my path may not have been linear, those formative years at the University of Windsor laid a solid foundation for my understanding of the business world. It also taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the value of prioritizing what truly matters.

While the dream of entrepreneurship hasn’t faded, it has evolved. I’ve gained valuable experience in the workforce, honing my skills and developing a keen understanding of different industries. The passion for business still burns bright, but it’s now tempered with a newfound perspective.

I believe that education comes in many forms, and that the lessons learned outside the classroom are often the most impactful. My journey from the University of Windsor to the “school of life” has taught me the importance of balance, empathy, and the power of pursuing one’s passions with unwavering determination.

Speaking of passions, it was during this time that I reconnected with a childhood love: coding. Little did I know, this would lead me to the iconic TD Tower in downtown Toronto and a pivotal moment in my career.
