Built for My Own Crossing

Message to self Hold the goal firmly and the path loosely.

Note by Sanjeevan Premkumar ·

Every year, caribou cross the same dangerous ground. Predators wait there, and not all of them make it. They cross anyway. They know where they're going, but not exactly how the crossing will unfold.

Something I learned from Regan Hillyer keeps coming back to me. We all have goals and dreams, but we tend to grip tightly to how we'll get there and how the reward should arrive. We picture one road, one formula, one lucky break, and when it doesn't show up that way, we think the dream is failing.

I'm learning to hold the destination firmly and the route loosely. There are many ways to reach a goal, and some of them I can't see yet. My part is to trust my instincts, keep moving, and let the path show itself.

If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it's not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That's why it's your path.
